SECTION A:
ANALYSIS OF FINANCIAL DATA
Answer ONE Question
1. Is the failure of Arthur Andersen to prevent Enron’s fraud satisfactorily explained by the ‘commercialisation of the accountancy profession’ (Hanlon, 1996)?
2. Critically examine whether the ‘audit explosion’ (Power, 1994) has achieved the goal of ‘public accountability’. Please illustrate your answer with an organisational example.
3. Drawing upon alternative conceptions of the corporation and its purpose, critically evaluate Friedman’s (1970) argument for shareholder wealth maximisation.

SECTION B:
MANAGEMENT KALEIDOSCOPE
Answer ONE Question
1. Explain how Veganism differs from Anthropocentrism, and then, with this in mind, select an organisation with which you are familiar (e.g., a football club, a hotel, a fashion outlet, a charity, or perhaps a university) and outline the changes which the organisation would need to put in place in order to be ‘vegan-friendly’. Students are reminded that in answering the questions above, veganism should be understood as a value-system practised on ethical grounds, with compassion for nonhuman animals being the motivating force, not environmental or health concerns.
2. To what extent do employee-owned businesses represent a viable alternative form of business organisation in society? 3. Critically discuss the challenges of sustainability for community-owned organisations.
