1. Object: Debussy’s ‘Pagodes’ from Estampes.
Do EITHER a close reading OR a contrapuntal reading (Kofi Agawu) of this piece as a work of Orientalism.
2. Object: Painting from the independent princely state of Jaipur, c. 1880.
Discuss how this painting demonstrates the concept of the paracolonial in relation to India.
3. Object: Clip of the last known recording of a South Indian temple devadasi from documentary Sex, Death, and the Gods.
